As a reminder, the golf course will be closed on Monday August 24th and Tuesday August 25th for aerification of our greens, tees and fairways. I apologize for any inconveniences this may cause but it is necessary to maintain our beautiful golf course!
Many members have expressed their concerns about the density of the rough in some areas on the golf course and the difficulty of hitting their ball our of it. The main reason for this is there is a large amount of bentgrass in our roughs and the bentgrass grows very dense. Another problem with bentgrass in our roughs is Bentgrass creates a large amount of thatch. The excessive thatch accumulations created by the Bentgrass in our rough is shown above. After nearly an inch of rain rain just two days ago, the soil remains dry beneath the thatch. It is very difficult for water and nutrients to penetrate through the thatch. Without removing the Bentgrass from our roughs, aerification is necessary. However, the amount of aerification we are capable of completing ourselves is not nearly enough to maintain this thatch to acceptable levels. The images were taken after some aerification in the rough on #5 today.
